The Heart Behind DBAM

Many businesses begin with a formal plan. DBAM Cakes and Rentals began with a search for peace.

The seed was planted in August 2020. At the time, I was balancing life as a university lecturer and a PhD student while navigating the joys and challenges of becoming a parent for the first time. The weight of those roles left me battling chronic stress and anxiety. I tried everything to find relief: exercise, long walks, crafting, but I often found myself feeling more exhausted than restored. I was yearning for an outlet that wouldn't just occupy my time but would truly quiet my mind and lift my spirit.

Then came the lockdown. For my daughter’s first birthday, since ordering a cake wasn't an option, I baked a simple vanilla sponge myself. To my surprise, the process brought me a sense of calm I hadn’t felt in years. When my husband tasted it, he smiled and said, "This is really good—you could sell this."

I laughed it off at first. But after sharing my bakes with neighbours and friends, their encouragement turned that laughter into a realisation: what started as a therapeutic escape from the intellectual demands of academia had revealed a hidden passion. Baking became more than a hobby; it became my calling.

This commitment to care also extends to how we work; we strive to be a sustainable and socially conscious business, doing our small part to honour the world around us while we celebrate the people in it.

By 2025, my vision grew. I realised that a beautiful cake is often the centrepiece of an even bigger story, and I wanted to help you tell that story more easily.

To create a seamless experience, we expanded into Boutique Rentals. We specialise in high-quality, "DIY-friendly" pieces that add a touch of luxury to your setting, from elegant chafing dishes and table risers to specialised seating for both adults and children. Everything in our inventory, from the cake stands to the food heating lamps, consists of items I personally love and trust to elevate a space.
